Traditionally-reared meat & locally-sourced produce

The Shop

Opened in 2008, our shop is a traditional family butchers in the centre of the delightful riverside village of Kintbury, midway between Newbury and Hungerford in West Berkshire. From here we offer a wide range of locally sourced and seasonal produce. In particular we hang, butcher and sell our own beef and lamb raised on our farm within a few miles of the shop.

Our pork is sourced locally from Russell Kilvington’s Royal Berkshire Pork and from which we produce our own handmade sausages and home-cured bacon and ham.

Free range poultry comes from award winning Great Farm in the Cotswolds and our eggs, also free range, are from Beechwood Farm in Hampstead Norreys.

We source local, in-season, game with venison, hare, pheasant, partridge and rabbit available within 24 hours by order if not available immediately.

Also available in the shop is an extensive range of delicatessen items including superb cheeses, Prosperous Farm Guernsey milk and cream, local preserves and honey, pates and terrines, chutneys, Kintbury apple juice, a wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, and numerous other specialty items. We even have a wide selection of frozen fish from sustainable sources.

Seasonal offerings include the finest local free range bronze turkeys from Bower Farm, Aldworth, bespoke barbecue packs prepared by our own butchery team and sumptuous hampers for either summer parties or Christmas gifts.

Family Farming

The Bastable family has been farming in Berkshire and North Hampshire for over 50 years, with tenant farming expanding into contract and share farming, owner occupation and general agricultural contracting. Latterly, environmental schemes have become increasingly important as the farming operation has expanded.
